Environment
Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak is a platform that empowers Métis women, in all their diversity, to engage in environmental dialogues.
Strategic Priorities
Métis women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin play an important role as caretakers of Mother Earth, keepers of culture, and protectors of the land. LFMO continues to advocate to ensure that these traditional practices, teachings, and ways of life are passed on to future generations.
We also use this ancestral knowledge to shape just policies where no one is left behind. By bridging Indigenous wisdom with other approaches, such as Western science, we can create a more inclusive and holistic understanding of nature, ensuring a better future for all.
Reclaiming Métis women’s traditional knowledge and leadership as protectors of water, land, and culture, ensuring these roles are central to environmental stewardship.
Embedding environmental stewardship into all aspects of LFMO’s work, reinforcing the interconnectedness of our community and the natural world.
Raising awareness of the social and health impacts of natural resource development industries on Métis women, families, and communities, highlighting the urgent need for more sustainable practices and the active participation of Métis women in the decision-making process.
Identifying the unique concerns and priorities of Métis women, particularly the effect of climate change on traditional and cultural practices and livelihoods, while advocating for inclusive mitigation strategies.
Facilitating knowledge transfer between Elders and Youth
