From Seed to Heart

Since its inception, LFMO has championed the strength and wisdom of Métis women, youth, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin to promote equality, health, and reconciliation. The From Seed to Heart initiative creates a healing and knowledge-sharing space that honors Métis cultural and traditional environmental stewardship.

Since its founding in 1999 and incorporation in 2010, Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak (LFMO) has been a steadfast advocate for the equal treatment, health, and well-being of all Métis people, with a focus on uplifting the strength and wisdom of Métis women, youth, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin.

Guided by these principles, the From Seed to Heart initiative was designed as a safe space for healing and knowledge sharing, emphasizing the cultural and traditional environmental stewardship of Métis women. Hosted within the broader K-Days expo, this initiative reflects LFMO’s commitment to accountability, reconciliation, and fostering connection through the wisdom of Métis traditions.

The project focused on priorities including climate and health, food security, emergency management, urban parks, youth perspectives in climate, Michif language in climate work, and women in energy.

The project underscores the value of land-based teachings and incorporates knowledge of traditional and sacred medicines, such as tobacco, sage, and sweetgrass, while examining how climate change is increasingly disrupting the availability of these natural healing resources.
