The Quality Improvement Project seeks to transform Métis Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) by developing tools and resources rooted in Métis cultural teachings and values.

Informed by the voices of Métis women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin, this initiative addresses gaps in culturally relevant ELCC services and aims to support early learners through a Métis-specific approach. A key component of the project is the establishment of a national committee to guide ELCC service providers, fostering collaboration and ensuring programs meet the diverse needs of Métis families across the Motherland.

From January 2020 to March 2021, LFMO worked to address data gaps in Métis-specific IELCC by researching it through a Métis GBA+ lens, aiming to define quality, accessible Métis Early Learning and Childcare (ELCC) and identify service gaps and barriers.

This research initiative focuses on Métis women as primary caregivers in their communities, using a multi-pronged approach that includes a literature review, grassroots engagement, surveys, and interviews with Métis parents, IELCC providers, and Elders, which will culminate in a final research report.
