MMIWG Sash
The “Remembering – Kiyas Kiskisowin Oma” Sash is a ceremonial gift honoring survivors and families of missing and murdered Métis women, girls, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse individuals (MMIWG2S+). Each color woven into the sash carries a specific cultural meaning, symbolizing healing, connection, and remembrance.
The "Remembering - Kiyas Kiskisowin Oma" Sash, created by Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak (LFMO), is a sacred symbol gifted during ceremonies to honor survivors and families of missing and murdered Métis women, girls, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse individuals (MMIWG2S+).
Each thread and color in the sash carries profound cultural significance, representing elements such as healing, ancestral wisdom, and connection to the Creator. This initiative not only fosters remembrance and resilience but also emphasizes the importance of honoring Métis traditions while supporting those impacted by systemic injustices.
This sash honours the memory of missing and murdered Metis women, girls, and gender-diverse folks (MMIWG2S+), as well as recognizing the strength and resilience of Survivors.
Green symbolizes rebirth and healing, yellow represents the sun, red honours Métis ancestors, blue connects Métis people to water and sky, purple signifies the wisdom of Grandmothers, black reflects grief and endurance, and white embodies the wisdom of the Creator and ancestors.
