Purple Sash

The Métis sash is a powerful symbol of Métis peoples’ identity, unity, and resilience, with LFMO’s purple sash carrying additional spiritual significance as an emblem of healing, hope, and strength. Gifted only during milestones and ceremonies, it honors the contributions of Métis women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin while embodying cultural teachings and connection to spirit.

Purple Sash

LFMO’s own sash, purple in color, reflects a sacred connection to healing and spirituality.

As shared by Grandmother Dianne Ludwig, the purple sash can offer solace and peace during moments of fear or worry, symbolizing strength and comfort. The sash, which cannot be purchased, is gifted exclusively during important milestones and ceremonies, honoring the contributions and achievements of Métis women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin.

Purple is the sacred healing colour of our Metis Grandmothers, which gives us strength, courage, and comfort during times of fear and uncertainty.

This sash is gifted to Metis women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ Metis kin to recognize significant achievements or contributions to their communities as well as to mark important milestones in their lives.
