Reach for the Sky
In partnership with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) through the Youth Employment Skills Strategy (YESS), LFMO developed a groundbreaking curriculum integrating Métis culture and leadership training. The program empowers Métis youth with job readiness, leadership skills, and a vision for secure employment and education opportunities.
Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak (LFMO), in collaboration with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) through their Youth Employment Skills Strategy (YESS), created a distinctions-based, gender-sensitive curriculum for Métis youth.
This innovative program combines leadership development, job readiness, and employment training with a strong emphasis on Métis cultural teachings and self-determination. The Reach for the Sky initiative equips Métis youth with the tools and inspiration to pursue leadership roles, secure employment opportunities, and engage in higher education. By connecting participants with role models and educators from Métis communities, the program envisions a future where Métis youth thrive in positions of influence within their communities and beyond.
“”Reach for the Sky,”” funded by the Government of Canada through the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy Program, aims to create opportunities for Métis women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals to develop their leadership potential.
Through accredited learning, Reach for the Sky participants will explore Métis women’s leadership, both historically and today, while developing skills to become leaders and mentors in their communities.
LFMO collaborated with provincial women’s groups across the Métis Motherland, using social media to recruit participants from three groups—high school youth, post-secondary students, and young parents—offering Métis-specific curriculum and materials for each group in partnership with Métis educators.
