Reproductive Justice and Family Unity

The Métis Reproductive Justice from Hospital to Home project honours the voices of Métis women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ community members by co-developing resources that promote reproductive justice and safety.

The Ohpikihaawashow: Métis Reproductive Justice from Hospital to Home project advocates for

the safety of Métis women and gender-diverse kin accessing reproductive healthcare. By

identifying ongoing gaps in care, harmful practices, and co-developing recommendations with

the community, this initiative promotes family unity and supports community-developed tools

and resources.

Many Métis families have negative experiences with health care providers, which can lead to

serious health risks. If pregnant and birthing women and gender-diverse people face

discrimination in health care or fear child welfare involvement, so much so that they are afraid to

seek help, their health outcomes will not be fair or equal.

Our project aims to better understand these challenges and create solutions alongside the

community. Guided by community priorities, resources will be tailored to meet the unique needs

of Métis women, 2SLGBTQQIA+ community members, and their families.
