Show Your Pride Network
LFMO is committed to amplifying the voices of 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin through dedicated engagement sessions and the creation of safe spaces for dialogue. By addressing issues such as lateral violence, racism, and discrimination, LFMO aims to foster inclusion and advocacy tailored to the unique experiences of Metis people.
Since 2018, Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak (LFMO) has actively worked to create a platform for 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin to share their experiences and influence actions addressing their distinct challenges.
Following an open discussion during its Annual General Meeting, LFMO committed to ongoing engagement and representation for this community. Through initiatives like the "Show Your Pride" sessions and the development of the Show Your Pride Network, LFMO continues to identify culturally specific gaps and challenges, such as lateral violence and systemic discrimination, while mobilizing knowledge and building supportive networks for 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin across the Motherland.
LFMO has been hosting regular and currently ongoing “Show Your Pride” community engagement sessions over the past year to begin to understand, with cultural specificity, the needs, gaps, and aspirational goals of Métis 2SLGBTQQIA+ people.
The engagement sessions included discussions on topics such as what it means to be Two-Spirit Métis, child care, Two-Spirit seniors, culturally appropriate child placement interventions, and a general forum for broader community dialogue.
Participants in these engagements identified issues such as racism, discrimination, and violence—particularly lateral violence—that are uniquely experienced within the Métis community
