Weaving Miskotahâ
The Weaving Miskotahâ initiative by LFMO focuses on systemic change to address the crisis of Missing and Murdered Métis women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin. It prioritizes justice reform, service accessibility, and healing, guided by a Métis-specific Action Plan.
The Weaving Miskotahâ initiative, led by Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak (LFMO), seeks to address the systemic factors contributing to the ongoing tragedy of Missing and Murdered Métis women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ kin.
Rooted in collaboration, the initiative emphasizes culturally informed approaches and actionable solutions to ensure the safety and well-being of Métis communities. With a Métis-specific Action Plan as its foundation, the initiative focuses on justice reform, equitable access to services, and community-driven healing initiatives, striving to create meaningful, lasting change that upholds the rights and dignity of all Métis people.
This initiative is guided by the law of Wâhkôtowin, meaning “”kinship”” or “”being related to each other,”” which reflects the belief that all of creation is interconnected. It governs respectful relationships between humans, the earth, plants, animals, the Creator, and all things, emphasizing the sacred bonds of “”All our Relations.”
LFMO hosted engagement sessions with over 330 Métis citizens, leaders, service providers, youth, Elders, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals to guide this process. The insights gathered will continue to inform our efforts as we move forward with implementation planning.
