In 2022 Les Femmes Michif Otipemisiwak (LFMO) completed a mixed methods research project entitled “My ancestors would be proud of us: Métis Women and 2SLGBTQIA+ People’s Housing Histories, Experiences, Struggles, and Perspectives.” This research examined the housing histories of Métis women and 2SLGBTQIA+ folk and identified several key themes that needed to be further explored and expanded upon. Two of these key themes have been examined in this subsequent research.
The first theme examines the impact of domestic violence on Métis women and 2SLGBTQIA+ Métis housing histories, experiences, struggles and perspectives. The second theme explored the intersection of disabilities and housing experiences of Métis women and 2SLGBTQIA+ Métis. This research further emphasizes the lack of culturally appropriate housing and services, signifying the unique struggles these communities face in securing safe and affordable housing.
